Day 1 of John Muir Academy

This day was a little intimidating, but once we were able to experiement with some of the web sites in the afternoon, I felt a little better. I didn't realize there were so many free web sites out there that would let you work with so many different types of media. I had heard of a couple of these web sites, but have never taken the time to actually look at them or use them. I had never used a blog until today. That was interesting and I was glad to sign up for the google account. I am hoping to explore some more areas of google. I had a conversation with some collegues at lunch and we were discussing the filters that many of our school districts have on our computer network systems. Many of these web sites are not available to teachers let alone the students. So that poses a problem. By the time we go through the correct channels and then maybe get permission to use these websites, especially to show a video, the window of opportunity to use this media will be closed. Even our yahoo accounts are not available to us at school. Any ideas on how to get around this issue would be welcome!
