I think a lot of the new ideas I'm taking from this class will help me build community among the students I teach. I have some unmotivated children that don't like to work independently in grades 4 and 5. By letting them blog a reflection and write about their feelings about what they learned from the lesson of the day, I think they'll be writing and communicating in a way future employers will we want them to. It's like giving kids time to talk, but not allocating time away from other valuable things that have to be accomplished during the day.
I could see setting up a blog where they write, then I comment on the writing and reflecting daily. I think they'd love to create an avatar. By allowing them time from our reading and writing lesson to work on technology like this, I'd really just be letting them do the independent problem solving and creating on their own.
I've see clips on teacher tube, IPod, and podcasts that will work in my classroom. I have students that just don't get enough computer time in or out of school. I want to give them the gift of learning that will give them confidence in themselves.
